After hearing Jerry and his band’s performance during the grand opening of a new club, James Brown was so blown away by their music that he wanted to produce them, but since they had already signed with Dan Penn and Capital Records, they had to decline his offer. However, James Brown remained an inspiration as well as a friend to Jerry throughout the years.
Jerry’s style and charm landed him in a commercial for Dollywood with the beautiful goddess of country music Dolly Parton, who he describes as "the most genuine person you'd ever want meet."
Jerry refused to let his age stop him from succeeding, as he went on to be signed by three different major record labels. After touring the country for 11 years his enthusiasm as an artist led him to discover new interest in the industry, which brought him to Nashville.
Jerry Michael had many other creative sides of music which lead him to become a successful publisher, writer, and producer. Heads turned all over the world when he also founded a state of the art recording studio known as ”Suite 900” which was featured on the cover of “Mix Magazine” and Pro Sound News Calendar !
The songs Jerry has written and published have been recorded by many renowned artists of different genres including Pop, Rock, R&B, Country, AC, and of course what started it all, Gospel!
Jerry’s love for music began at an early age, sitting on the floor of a local radio station while his mother sang with the gospel quartet. Friends to this day still talk about Jerry at the age of three, standing on a tree stump preaching and singing gospel songs out behind his North Carolina home. One of his on lookers said, "He looked so cute in his bib overalls, and bare feet. We all knew he would grow up to be an entertainer, or a preacher.”
At the age of 13 he wrote his first song and didn’t know that you could get paid for such a thing. Later the song was recorded by a young female artist and a twenty two piece orchestra which received great final reviews. Just out of high school, with a strong work ethic and the ability to know great songs, Jerry formed his first band and set out to travel the US. It's no surprise that at one point Clint Eastwood was part of his audience during an exclusive invitation only performance in Lake Tahoe.
